BLOGS AND BLOG READERS
I currently discovered FEED READERS
and am wondering why I never heard of them before. My only guess is that people
are more focused on getting information from sources like Facebook, Instagram
and Twitter all at once. However questionable the information may be.
The
Feed Reader allows us to choose the websites that interest us and get the
information from all the different sources at once. Some will even choose the
most pertinent post to our likes and display that first. The feeder I enjoyed
the most is Feedly.
Feedly
is straightforward in what it’s doing. Saving you time from switching through
all your sources and sorting the information to suit your needs. It does not
overwhelm users with a lot of graphics and options like Feedspot. It was a
close call with others such as Inoreader because of the storage but it also
created the need to sort and tag when I won’t necessarily want to archive a lot
of the content.
BLOGS:
Teen Librarian Toolbox: This is a School Library Journal
Blog that offers articles related to libraries such as Collection Development.
The main reason I immediately gravitated to this blog is because they are a
professional development website for teen librarians with resource-sharing,
discussions and book reviews.
The Brown Bookshelf: This blog focuses on advocating African
American Literature for our students. It allows librarians to be aware of
current issues and events involving African American Literature. It also offers
book reviews as well as author/illustrator interviews.
Tamiko Brown: I had the pleasure of meeting and listening to
Ms. Brown at a conference last year and it was inspiring to see her devotion to
library advocacy. She is School Library Journal’s School Librarian of the year
(2017) and has great ideas we can integrate into our own libraries.
Pat Mora: I also included Pat Mora’s Blog to create emphasis
on our diverse student populations. She is a children’s author whose stories
often focus on Hispanic Heritage. Her blog involves a support for diverse cultures
as well and she is currently promoting a grant from The Center for the Study of
Multicultural Children’s Literature.
Irene Latham: This Blog is all about poetry. I would find it
helpful for librarians that want to explore poetry with their students. It
offers a poem of the day as well as exercises to get the creative juices
flowing.
MY TUMBLR ACCOUNT:
I also chose Feedly as my preferred feed reader. One thing that I have noticed about Feedly that I did not think to include in my own blog post is that if you choose to read a blog post in the Feedly app, it will automatically remove any ads or other distractions (including background designs and other formatting) from the post. This can be a bonus when you are trying to read through multiple posts quickly.
ReplyDeleteGreat explanation of a Feedreader! I too enjoyed the use of Feedly. I found some of the other readers were too busy for me. I am excited to read more from the Teen Librarian Toolbox. This is definitely a site that will allow me to grow as a librarian!
